Real Estate is a Team Sport
As a long-time real estate practitioner, I’ve learned a few things over the years. If I can help just one person by sharing ideas and lessons learned, then this format will be worthwhile. Some have resulted from the joy of success, while others were learned the hard way. I promise to be transparent and not hold back. Sharing is how I choose to start my week.

Real Estate is a Team Sport
One thing I learned early on in my career is that real estate is a team sport. Those of us lucky enough to participate in this industry develop certain skill sets and areas of expertise. This is often referred to as a “given discipline” and is comprised of your experience and influenced by your area of interest. I have yet to meet anyone who is able to excel in all areas.
Building a great team is also a skill set and one that I have developed over time. The team that we created at Cary Clarke Homes was amazing and filled with a culture of people dedicated to outstanding customer service and the pursuit of excellence.
I have been fortunate to attract the same outstanding level of competence with the General Partnership team formed to develop RailRoad Lofts, our 351-unit ground up multifamily development project.
J Scott is a best-selling author and frequent contributor to the Bigger Pockets platform. He is managing legal compliance, capital raising, and investor relations.
Ashley Wilson is a recognized leader within the multifamily industry. She will be assisting with construction management and playing the lead role overseeing the property management company.
Kyle Wilson is our chief underwriter and is an expert in project analysis.
Craig Haddow will be assisting with construction management and property management.
Mark Lindley has over 40 years of apartment building experience and assumes the role of Owner’s Representative as he oversees the general contractor.
As the team leader, I have the pleasure of working with each of these accomplished people within their area of given discipline.
We have also hired an impressive group of professional partners to execute this project at a high level. CEI (Construction Enterprises Inc.) will be serving as the general contractor, The Clerkley
Watkins Group is the architect of record, Topographic provides the civil engineering services, and MLDC will be providing property management.
Collectively, this team has built over 45,000 units valued at over $3.5B and owns and operates over 1,000 units.
As they say, it takes a village. In this case, it takes an incredible team to create the institutional level of quality of this project. If you have any questions or want to invest in RailRoad Lofts, please feel free to reach out to me.
